
Though Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard is retired, she fills her time, among other things, as a guest researcher at Aarhus University in the history of the Internet, in which she was active in the 1990s. She ended her working life as an Open Science Coordinator at Aarhus University. Earlier, she worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Medicine at the University of Copenhagen for a few years after her studies and then served as an associate professor at UNI-C in Aarhus until 1987. In the same year, she became an assistant professor at the physical institute at Aarhus University, after which she was hired as a senior and chief consultant at UNI-C Aarhus. She had been a research assistant professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in the United States.
Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard became Head of Development in 1996 and in 2000 was given a position at the State Library in Aarhus for eight years. After that, she served as Deputy Director General at the Royal Library for a period of seven years until 2015. She was head of the Digital Humanities Lab (2015-2021), after which she transferred to a position as Open Science Coordinator at Aarhus University.
Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard has written articles on atomic physics, digital libraries, open science, and digital humanities, as well as many reports within different branches of digital libraries and digital humanities. She studied the role of the library in the information economy, with emphasis on digital preservation and identifying and tailoring services to specific communities.
