Hussein Suleman is Head of Department and Professor in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.\u00a0 Hussein\u2019s main research interests are in digital libraries, ICT for development, African language information retrieval, cultural heritage preservation, Internet technology and educational technology. He has in the past worked extensively on architecture and interoperability issues related to digital library systems, with a growing emphasis on the relationship between low resource environments and such architectures.\u00a0 This has evolved into a focus on the intersection between Digital Libraries and ICT for development (ICT4D).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He first joined the NDLTD Board of Directors in 2004 and has been responsible for the NDLTD website for many years.  He set up an NDLTD publication archive that was active until 2015.  Most notably, he developed and runs the current NDLTD Union Archive<\/a> of metadata and maintains the associated NDLTD Global ETD Search<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a member of the steering committee of the national ETD Project, run as a collaborative venture between the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Committee for Higher Education Librarians of South Africa (CHELSA).  He also developed and maintains the South African National ETD Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the ETD Symposium was held in South Africa, co-hosted by the University of Cape Town, he was one of the Programme Chairs and a local organiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
